Movies in the Park

Now that Quinn is getting older and understands things a little better, we have been looking for family things to do with her.  The District has movies in the park every Saturday night of summer and we thought that would be a fun thing to try out since it is free and we could leave easily if it wasn't working out.  One Saturday a few weeks ago, Quinn took a super late nap and didn't wake up until 6:00 and the weather was AMAZING, so we thought it would be the perfect time to try it out.  We got to the park and set up our blanket in one of the few empty spots of grass left.  Nate and Harper hung out on the blanket while Quinn and I walked down to Ben and Jerry's to get some ice cream.  We then walked back and sat down just in time for the movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.  Quinn was pretty interested for the first little bit, then somewhat lost interest but never got too crazy.  It was so much fun and so nice to enjoy one of the perfect Vegas nights.

Then a few weeks later, the park was showing Frozen.  We wanted to bring Quinn since we knew she was completely obsessed with the movie.  Then Nate's cousin, who dresses up for princess parties, told us she was going to make an appearance as Elsa and we were so excited to take Quinn!  Well, turns out that Saturday Quinn woke up from her nap in the absolute worst mood ever.  I was determined to go still though and so we dragged her to the park, hoping that the festivities would turn her mood around.  She did get excited when her cousin showed up and they waited for Elsa together.  When Elsa walked up, Quinn was super excited but then heard "Let it Go" playing and immediately stopped caring about Elsa and just wanted to dance and sing on her own.  She did end up giving Elsa a hug and dancing with her and she loved it.  We then made our way back to the grass where Nate had been saving our spot, but it was complete madness.  There were hundreds of people and they were completely blocking our view.  Luckily, my parents had shown up and were on a bench along the path that had a little better view.  So we moved over with them.  The movie started and Quinn was so excited to sing and dance to all of the songs, but the madness did not stop.  People continued to stop right in front of us so we couldn't see and were so inconsiderate.  Then when "Let it Go" played during the movie, Nate's cousin walked around sprinkling fake snow and she completely got mobbed by excited little girls and their parents five feet in front of us, which led to all of us nearly getting trampled and almost losing Quinn in the crowd.  It was insane.  And Quinn was still being pretty ornery.  So needless to say, by the time Nate got her moved down to a more open area and the crowd had dispersed, we packed up and left before the movie was over.  But overall I think Quinn had a good time, it was just a little overwhelming for Nate and me.
Waiting for the movie to start.
