Pumpkinman Triathlon 2013

Last summer, Nate trained for a triathlon for a few months but then he got busy and nothing ever came from it.  He got busy with work and life for awhile, but then decided he needed to start working out again.  Some of his friends were doing a sprint triathlon and they kept asking him to do it with them.  He finally decided to sign up for it and started training for it a little more seriously.  But then a few weeks before the race, the government shutdown happened and the race couldn't happen unless that ended.  On the last possible day, the government shutdown ended and the race was back on!  It had been a hectic last little bit leading up to the race, and honestly, I still wasn't sure if he was actually going to do the race the night before.  His shoulder had been really hurting him for a few days and I just didn't see it happening.  But Nate stuck to it, woke up super early and headed down to the race starting line.  It was too cold and too early for Quinn and me to join him and cheer him on during the swim, but I woke her up and drove to meet him at the transition from the bike to the run and then to watch him at the finish line.  The weather was absolutely perfect, and we actually had a lot of fun cheering Nate on as he rode past!  My parents came to cheer him on as well, and all of the support really motivated him to finished strong!

He did such a great job!  I'm so proud of him for sticking to it (even when I was giving him every excuse not to go through with it), and for finishing strong!  His first sprint triathlon was a success!
Waiting to see her Dadda pass by.
Finishing the swim.
At the end of the bike.

The final sprint at the end of the race!
